6th MyPSA National Pharmacy Quiz (Rx Quiz VI) 2014
The 6th National Pharmacy Quiz 2014 (Rx Quiz VI) is an international academic competition among undergraduates majoring in Pharmacy. The competition was founded and organized by the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) for three years in a row. After that, it is handled by the University of the Asian Institute of Medicine, Science and Technology (AIMST), University of Malaya (UM), and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).
The main objective of the event is to provide a platform for healthy competition and dissemination of knowledge as well as intellect among the pharmacy students from all over the country.

Description of the activity (Activity Report):
The 6th MyPSA National Pharmacy Quiz (Rx Quiz VI) 2014/2015 was held on 7 to 9 November 2014 (Friday to Sunday) with a great success. This was the sixth session of this annual event and was hosted by Society of Pharmacy Student (SOPHYS) UiTM. The theme this year was “The Rise of Young Dexterous Pharmacists” that brought the meaning to be the best pharmacist among the best in the future. We hope that this event can serve as a platform for pharmacy’s student all around Malaysia to build a great teamwork and able to communicate properly with community in the future.
This session we had received active involvement from 7 schools of pharmacy in peninsula Malaysia. Unfortunately, we didn’t get any involvement from neighboring country because some of the school could not reach when in contact. With 13 teams registered for the event and all teams attended without failed on the event day. The local private and government pharmacy schools that involved included Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM- 2 teams); IIUM(2 teams); CUCMS (2 teams); UiTM (2 teams); MSU (2 teams); UM (2 teams) and AIMST University.
The event started with registration and check-in into the hostel at “Kolej Angsana” of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Puncak Alam Campus. The registration was done smoothly and all teams were registered on the 7th November. All the committee members were also having the final preparation and venue setting for the quiz and opening ceremony on the second day on the 8th November 2014. Bureau of transportation and public relation were in charged to guide and brought participants to the specific venue. For example, the facilitators guided them to the hostel and venue of quiz and ceremony being held. At 9.00 pm, the participants had a briefing session on the flow of the three days event and quiz by the Bureau of Quiz in Dewan Serbaguna, Rafflesia College.
The second day, the breakfast started at 8.00 am in Activity Room 1, Faculty of Pharmacy, UiTM Puncak Alam Campus. Then, all participants and accompanying lecturers were fetched by the committee to the Preliminary round 1(writing test) venue which was at Exam Hall 1, Faculty of Pharmacy, UiTM. After the preliminary round 1, all the accompanying lecturers which are also judges for this event went to Lecture Hall 1 for briefing on rules and regulation while all the participants went to Dewan Kuliah 500 (DK500) for opening ceremony which started at 10.00 am. The opening ceremony was inaugurated by the Deputy Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Dr. Nor Amlizan Ramli. The ceremony was smooth and was brighten by the song of National Anthem, Negaraku and UiTM official song, UiTM DiHatiku by all the members in the ceremony together with the choir members by our first year students. The gimmick for opening ceremony was done by Persatuan Seni Silat Cekak Malaysia (PSSCM). After the Opening ceremony, the Preliminary round 2 was continued for all 13 teams at TEC room at 11.30 am with each room 4 teams competing simultaneously. All the questions were confidential and only appeal on the spot during the quiz. The questions were read out by the emcee and the marks were decided by the judges followed the rules and regulation. The score was kept and being sum up to the subsequent rounds.
After that, at 01.30 pm, the participants and judges were taking their lunch in Activity Room 1. Then, competency test began at 03.30 pm at Dispensing Laboratory. The competency test was being introduced for the first time in this pharmacy quiz. The winner for this test will be awarded with Piala Aishah. The first day event ended at 6pm. Only 8 teams with highest accumulated score are qualified to enter the semifinal on the next day in which the results were showed on PharmaMeet Night dinner. All participants and accompanying lecturers were sent back to the hostel for rest before the PharmaMeet Night dinner. The objective for PharmaMeet Night dinner was to encourage the participants and lecturers to interact with each other (make more friends) and for them to enjoy after having a stressful day with some refreshment and performances. This dinner is also as to appreciate our sponsors, lecturers and participants for helping us directly or indirectly. This event setting was at Dewan Serbaguna PFI, Pusat Kegiatan Pelajar, UiTM Puncak Alam Campus. The dinner was began by the recitation of du’a and then followed by a speech from Director, President of MyPSA and also by the main sponsor of this event. The main sponsor of this event was Yayasan Pembangunan Islam Malaysia (YaPEIM), while the other sponsors are Kelab Santun YaPEIM, Chemical Company of Malaysia Berhad (CCM), Prestige Pharma Sdn. Bhd., Pharmaniaga Berhad, Kongzi Institute University of Malaya (KZIUM), and Achik Printing Sdn. Bhd. The representative of our main sponsor which is Tuan Haji Mohammad Zamri Zakaria, Pengurus Kanan Bahagian Amal Jariah YaPEIM, delivered a remarkable speech for the opening of this dinner. The performances during this night were acoustic (was performed by Deputy Director of Communication 6th Rx Quiz, Mr. Muhammad Danial Izwan; and our second year students, Noel Leroy and Muhammad Sa’id, poem in 4 languages (Mandarin language by Director of 6th Rx Quiz, Miss Zainatul Fadhilah; Arabic language by our first year student, Mr. Muhammad Lutfi; Hindi by Treasurer of 6th Rx Quiz, Miss Nur Najuwa,; and Malay languages by all three of them, and also skeleton dance (performed by our committee members). The VIPs and judges were being released from this dinner at 10.00pm. This dinner was end at 11.00pm. The participants were then need to be in the hostel so that they can get enough rest and prepare for the quiz on the next day.
The last day started with breakfast at 7.30am. The semi final was conducted in two TEC rooms with 4 teams each were competing at the same time and the competition was opened to other participants and lecturers to watch. Semi final was started at 9.45am, due to the judges were having meeting with each other in order to avoid any misunderstanding by participants. The teams that successfully enter the semifinal included UiTM team A and B; CUCMS team B; UM team A; IIUM team A and B; UKM team A and AIMST. After the semifinal was the Grand finale of competency test at Dispensing Laboratory. The teams that successfully enter grand final competency test include UM team B and CUCMS team B. Then, lunch was served at 12.00 pm.
Grand finale for quiz was started at 2pm at DK500. The potential winner teams that successfully got into final round were UM team, UiTM team B, AIMST and CUCMS team B! The Grand Finale was ended at 4 pm. UM team won the quiz and was presented with Piala Tariq which was named after the Dean of Kulliyah of Pharmacy of IIUM, Profesor Datuk Dr Tariq Abdul Razak. The 1st runner up went to CUCMS team while the 2nd runner up went to AIMST team. UiTM got fourth place. Piala Aishah was presented to the winning team which was CUCMS team. The best participant was Yeo Keh Hau from CUCMS team.
The event was ended with closing and Prize Giving ceremony. We had raised our closing ceremony with invited guest Datin Mariani Ahmad Nizaruddin, advisor of Malaysian Pharmacy Students Association (MyPSA), in which she also was given the opening speech for this ceremony. Besides, we also had Acoustic performance from our second year pharmacy students, by Noel Leroy, Muhammad Sa’id and Mario. The closing speech in this ceremony was delivered by Miss Zainatul Fadhilah binti Zulkarnain, director of 6th MyPSA National Pharmacy Quiz as a last good bye, acknowledge everyone who involved directly or indirectly in this program and wishing the best for participants and also for the next host of this Rx quiz.
Last but not least, there were laughter and also regret in this event. No matter that you had win the quiz or not, but we really hope that each and every participants had win the friendship and also gained experiences from this event. We wish that the Pharmacy Quiz VII by CUCMS will be a great success too!
