31st May every year, the world celebrates the World No Tobacco Day. This year with the theme ‘Tobacco – a threat to development” (from the World Health Organization), all of us would hope that awareness of the dangers of smoking tobacco be spread to the whole wide world.
These are some facts about tobacco that you may not know about:
- Tobacco kills more than 7 million people every year and that number is expected to be increased to 8 million by 2030.
- Tobacco declines the nation’s economy by reducing productivity and increasing healthcare costs
- Tobacco planting uses 4.3 million hectares of land, which result in deforestation.
- Tobacco manufacturing produces over 2 million tonnes of solid waste.
Think straight and say no to tobacco.
